The Basics

Estate tours include a viewing of a documentary about colonial plantation life, as well as a look inside the mansion, with its lavish Chinese Chippendale staircase and treasure trove of antiques and porcelain objects. You’ll also visit the processing plant and St. Nicholas Abbey Rum distillery.

While there, hop aboard the abbey’s heritage steam railway to experience the thrill of Victorian-era travel, then walk to Cherry Tree Hill for a view of the coast. If you have more time, full-day tours include sightseeing in Bridgetown and island highlights such as Harrison’s Cave, Bathsheba Beach, and historic gardens.

A lovely family day out
A lovely family day out. We started with the steam train and had a guided tour around the house. The conductor gave lots of information about the train and the surrounding area during our journey. Our guide was very knowledgeable and funny. She made the tour interesting for everyone.

Half Day Tour: St Nicholas Abbey and The Barbados Wildlife Reserve
We had a lovely morning with Charles our guide. He picked us up from the hotel right on time. He pointed out some places of interest on the way and answered any questions that we had. Thoroughly enjoyed St Nicholas Abbey and the Wildlife Reserve. Our only criticism is that we would've liked a little longer in each place. We would've liked the train ride at the abbey but there wasn't enough time

Beautiful Hunte’s garden and rum tasting at the Abbey

Hunte's Garden and St Nicholas Abbey small group or private Barbados tour
Hunte’s garden was fabulous. The lush vegetation and colorful tropical flowers and foliage were outstanding as was meeting and rum tasting with Mr Hunte at the end. Our visit to St Nicholas Abbey was pretty much self guided since not enough guides were available. The documentary movie shot almost a century back was very informative. The tour operators “Beautiful Barbados Tours“ were very well organized and the drivers were very knowledgeable about the history of Barbados and the Caribbean.

Day Tour Including Harrison's Cave St. Nicholas Lunch and Monkeys
Fabulous day with the lovely Steven as a tour guide. He was brilliant, very knowledgeable, helpful and knew exactly how much to speak (a key skill some tour guides miss!) Would recommend this to anyone looking to see the main attractions in Barbados. We were ahead of the crowds at all stops and squeezed a lot into a short space of time.

St Nicholas Abbey Tour in Barbados
Going back in time to a 17th century plantation was a thoroughly worthwhile trip. Now a working rum distillery set in over 400 acres of land, but reminding you of the suffering of thousands of slaves who were originally forced to work here.

Half Day Tour: St Nicholas Abbey and The Barbados Wildlife Reserve
The tour guide at St Nicholas Abbey was excellent and well-informed. (Could have stayed longer !). Glad to read that the stories of the enslaved who enabled the luxury on show will soon be included more prominently. Wildlife Reserve charming and arriving at feeding time enabled easy watching and mingling with the pre-occupied residents. (Watch your step though !). Driver/guide Charles a great guy who made the time a true Bajan experience.
