The Basics

Old San Juan is a staple in city sightseeing tours, which offer an easy way to get an overview of the historic city and typically pass by other must-see sites such as La Fortaleza, the Capilla del Cristo, and the Santa María Magdalena de Pazzis Cemetery. More tailored options include food tours and walking tours with a private guide, while Segway tours or cruises on San Jose Bay are also popular alternatives in San Juan.

Excellent foodie tour
My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed this walking food tour through old San Juan. Our tour guide, Fabian, was extremely personable and very knowledgeable about all the history of Puerto Rico and specifically San Juan. If you enjoy tasting local cuisine and learning about new cultures, then this is the tour for you. Incredible food, good company, and excellent guide. We couldn't have asked for a better evening in Old San Juan!

Jesus, the tour guide, gave vibrant life to the history of Old San Juan. He was both knowledgeable and incisive in his facts and observations. He was pleasant company, too. Kudos to him.

SAN JUAN 500 FEST: Walk It & Cruise It
I truly enjoyed the walking tour. Our guide I forgot her name was knowledgeable about the area. I didnt realize it when we booked the tour. It was a private tour. My family was only one so it very custom able to you on what you saw and do. The last hour was mainly the cruise which takes to bay so the highlight. It covered old San Juan so my next trip to Puerto Rico will spend South and West.

Sunset Walking Tour in the Historic Old San Juan
I’m a native of PR but haven’t lived there in decades. This tour was a great refresher of the history of PR and Old San Juan. Jorge, our guide, was prompt, friendly, and very knowledgeable. He made the experience fun yet educational for everyone in the group. The timing of the tour is perfect - not so hot to walk plus you enjoy a beautiful sunset in a great spot.

I highly recommend this tour. Claudia was AMAZING! She was extremely knowledgeable about the history of Old San Juan, the background on the food and drinks, and brought great energy for the entire tour. I will definitely come back and rebook with friends and family on a day that she is giving the tour.

Private Old San Juan Historic Discovery Experience
The trip to the waterfall included exquisite views and lush rain forest with stunning vegetation. The waterfall was breathtaking and a relatively short hike from the road. Our family enjoyed getting into the pool at its feet and under it. We recommend considering wearing a bathing suit or equivalent in order to maximize your visit. Then we came back and explored Old San Juan just enough to capture its flavor and peak our interest in a return visit for an even deeper experience.

Other San Juan Neighborhoods

Old San Juan is perhaps the best-known of Puerto Rico's San Juan neighborhoods, but it's far from the only one. Venture slightly farther afield to upscale Miramar, home to two marinas; make your way to Condado, known for beachside condos; or stop in at Ocean Park, where you'll find some overlooked but beautiful beaches.
