Many years ago, the drive on either side to get to it was flanked by cherry trees, thus the reason for its name; however these were replaced with mahogany trees which now line the road. The trees were planted in celebration of the signing of The Treaty of Paris in 1763

Barbados Wildlife Reserve
The Barbados Wildlife Reserve lies in an enclosed area under a canopy of mahogany trees with winding red brick pathways beneath. If you look closely at the bricks, you can still see the stamps of the manufacturing companies. The bricks were brought to Barbados by ships, which used them as ballast. During the 17th and 18th centuries, these red bricks were used to construct boiler furnaces in Barbados sugar factories. The large wheel in front of the snack bar was acquired from an old sugar factory and was once used to drive rollers for crushing the sugar cane. The most popular animal at the Reserve is The Barbados Green Monkey. The monkey has brown and grey thick fur that has yellow and olive green flecks in it as an adult. In some lights, the monkey can appear green. This is why they are called green monkeys. Barbados Green Monkeys generally live in groups of fifteen to twenty. Within a family group, males gain their dominance by their size, strength and their ability to fight. Females, however, get their rank by the size of their families. Most infants are born during April and May.

A day to remember
, Mar 2022
A great way to see and learn much more about the beautiful island of Barbados hosted by our great guide Steve. So knowledgeable and passionate about his island. Hunte’s garden, magnificent a must see and Mr Hunte now an octogenarian still working every day in his garden meets you in his house to tell you the story of the garden and answer any questions about it or the island. We then drove along the fantastic east coast rugged and wild such a contrast to the west coast. I found this natural raw beauty around Bathsheba one of the highlights. We drove across the centre to the high point of Cherry Hill to see the magnificent panoramic views. We stopped for an excellent lunch of fresh fish, macaroni-cheese ‘pie’ and salad at Sand Dunes. Then followed St Nicholas Abbey, a guided tour of an old surviving plantation house and rum distillery. The story is fascinating and the current owner family are there to give you a taste of fine rum and answer any questions about todays working process. Then on to a nature reserve to see the island’s cheeky green monkeys, look out for the tortoises too. Don’t miss feeding time at 2pm! It really was a day to remember, interesting and fun. Very good value-a fantastic way to see the island and hear more about the beautiful people and island of Barbados!, thanks Steve
Excellent way to get a feel for Barbados
, Mar 2022
From pick up to drop off the trip was beautifully organised and Calvin and later Sunshine were fine guides who looked after us and were more than informative throughout. It was an excellent day and I would highly recommend it to other visitors. The gardens and St. Nicolas were beautiful and the steam train a bonus.
A great taste of the island!
, Feb 2022
This was a great experience and an overall introduction to Barbados! Being an avid gardener, the Hunte Garden was a highlight for me. The view from Cherry Hill is also something not to be missed! Absolutely breathtaking !!! If you are a rum lover, the trip to St. Nicholas Abbey is a great experience from both a historical and rum tasting perspective . Our driver was very friendly, professional and a wealth of information. Overall, the trip was a great way to spend the day!

We had such a great time! We got to see a lot of the island and learnt about the islands history. My favourite part of this tour was the wildlife reserve. I loved the cheeky monkeys in the trees and steeling all the food from the other animals in the reserve.
I went on this tour with my dad...
, May 2016
I went on this tour with my dad, just the two of us. Our tour guide Stephen was amazing. He went above and beyond to give us and those in our group a great experience. Stephen went out of his way multiple times and address all our questions, he was very informative. I thought the tour was worth doing in the sense that we were able to see multiple parts of the island and it was easy on my dad because it was not strenuous. What we didn't think was worth it was the Hunte's Garden it was nice but not was nothing amazing. Looking briefly at Bethesda was nice, cherry hill was an interesting 5 minute event, St.Nicholas Abbey we were given an informative tour then left to look around on our own, and we really enjoyed feeding time at the wildlife reserve.
