50/50 Blah…

This review is nothing personal against the guys who put this event together GlassbottomPR, they were amazing. Made jokes and made the experience fun, we even got picked up and dropped off at our hotel. I would give them a solid 4.5 Stars It boils down to your level of tolerance for other people (who slows down the entire group) mosquito bites and swamp water. The bioluminescence experience was there but minimal I heard it’s best to book events like this based on the moons schedule. Over all It was okay to each is own

Wonderful experience with no regret

Surprised by the guides knowledge of the bay and how everything fits together. Paddling through the mangroves and seeing the sunset over the bay was an amazing experience. The bioluminescence was maybe a 3 out of 10 but our guides made the most out of the trip.

Great time kayaking!

Great guides - guides were super friendly and helpful and we got lucky as it was a new moon when we visited and we were able to clearly see the bioluminescent plankton. Incredible experience. You will 100% get soaked on this, so wear a bathing suit and bring a change of clothes and towel.

Not happy with this experience
Karen_K
, Jan 2022
Very dangerous. Kayaks should have lights that you can turn on and off to still enjoy the bioluminescence but be able to kayak safely.
icon Response from Host , Feb 2022
Dear Karen, we are saddened to learn the activity did not met your expectations. Kayaks have glow sticks attached to both of their ends to serve as guide while everyone has to paddle thru the mangrove channel, as described on the listing. It is designed to be suitable for kids starting the age of 7 since it takes place on a closed and controlled environment at the lagoon, we are sorry you did not felt this way. If you are back, please feel free to reach out to assist with other activities and ensure you have a great experience.

The fluorescent algae was amazing. The guides cursed in Spanish because my wife was having trouble paddling. Little did they know that we understood every word of it. We still tipped them generously.. but they need to be careful the next time around.

Great kayaking and bioluminescence planktons but disgusting bathrooms
Sharan_P
, Dec 2021
Absolutely beautiful experience that one should have at least once in their life. It is like holding stars in your hands. The night we went it was very clear so having beautiful stars over head and holding starry planktons in your hand was stunning. For a first time kayaking person warning, it’s not easy. But your guides were very helpful. I chose 4 stars because they do not provide clean bathrooms. I’ve never seen more disgusting bathrooms anywhere in the world. They charge $100 per person, every day they are making at least $3000 there are tourist companies, together they must make even more. Can’t they afford a cleaner and get them cleaned?!

Unique and Special Experience!
Ariana_R
, Nov 2021
Wow!!! Such an amazing and humbling experience to be able to see one of the last bioluminescent bays in the world. We went during the new moon and could really see the sparkle when we disturbed the water. If you’re expecting a glowing bay, that is not the case, but what you do see when you play with the water is really quite spectacular. Expect to run into a few tree branches on the way in and out of the bay. Sea Kayaking by night is not the easiest thing to do, but we felt safe in the group. Would highly recommend this experience! Also, our driver Felix was AWESOME, so great that this tour provides transportation. Thank you!

Fun time if you are adventurous, not as easy to see as you would expect.

Cool trip to see the bioluminescence in the water. It’s more like a sparkler effect. Had to use a tarp over the kayak in the bay due to the light in the lagoon. You can see better in the REALLY dark mangroves, but then it’s hard to see where you are going. Worth the trip. Group may have been a bit too large and people who have never kayaked before have more difficulty keeping the kayak under control and going straight.

Great Experience

Great time! Very prompt pick up from near our place in San Juan, nice driver and really knowledgeable and helpful staff throughout. The glow was a little compromised by lighting conditions but the staff was creative about making it visible and we really liked the paddle through the mangroves for it’s own interests.

This experience was quite underwhelming. The kayak journey was long, the water smelled like a sewer, and there wasn’t much to see in terms of the “glowing” microorganisms. I wouldn’t recommend this experience — not worth the time or money.

Crowded, only views made it worth it.
Chinmayee_M
, Jul 2021
Three stars for how gorgeous it was and one of the kayak guides with us who was fun to interact with. Reality is they have too many people in the group and can't manage it. You have to Kayak through the mangrove in double seater kayaks which was challenging for quite a few in our group who were doing it for the first time. The kayak guide gave the most brief explanation ever which does not help anyone. After all that, it ended up being a day before full moon and we were given tarps? For like 5 minutes? This trip costs money, would have appreciated if they only accepted bookings when you can ACTUALLY view the phenomenon. So, if you do decide to go, do yourself a favour and make sure you know how to kayak and its not anywhere near full moon.

Not worth the time/cost
Carmela_C
, Jul 2021
5 hours driving around in a rickety bus, 1.5 hours of kayaking, and about 2-5 mins of bioluminescence. The bioluminescence is very cool, but find your own way to get there. We got picked up by the bus and then spent 2 hours driving around San Juan picking up others for the tour. And drop off after the tour was in opposite order, those picked up last got dropped off first. There was no introduction or information provided on this long bus ride. We got there and were rushed on to the kayaks with no time for restrooms. Hardly any instruction was given, and very few guides, so with lots of inexperienced kayakers the entire time on the water was like bumper boats.

Be prepared
Jay
, Jul 2021
Kayaking at night can be a little dangerous, specially if its your first time doing it. At times i felt unsafe do to the fact that going back out it was DARK abd most of the people in the group did not know what they were doing. Maybe it would be a good idea to provide a bit more lighting on the way back to shore. Bring lots of “OFF” even if they tell you to leave your belongings in the bus! do not forget to put it on !!! you will need it.

Traumatizing Experience
Cheryl_K
, Jul 2021
Too much money for it not to be any bioluminescence. First time kayaker and I hated it 😪. Did the last tour and it was difficult to see in the dark trying to get back to shore. The instructors seemed aggravated with us crashing into everything. I feel more time should be spent teaching the ones who doesn’t have the same experience.

Very cool! Seeing the lights flicker even on a cloudy night was amazing!! Make sure to bring (and use) bug-spray; the kayak ride to the bay is FULL of mosquitos!
