8:00 AM
Complimentary pick up in selected areas of San Juan: Old San Juan, Condado, Isla Verde, Miramar and Ocean Park and Calle Loiza. Meeting point available by PR-3 in Rio Grande. Exact pick up time will be provided the day prior to the tour.
Receive an included pickup in the morning from your San Juan hotel, after which you’ll transfer by air-conditioned bus or van through a number of local Puerto Rican towns heading to El Yunque, one of the oldest forest reserves in the Western Hemisphere.

You’ll continue into the rainforest, heading to the first trailhead to take your first guided nature walk. As you wander along the trail, your guide will introduce you to the exotic varieties of flowers and the fresh ginger that grow alongside your route. You’ll also learn about the reserve’s significance to the local Taino Indians, who have long considered the area as sacred.

Continue to the reserve’s El Portal Visitor Center, where you’ll have time to explore the exhibits including an elevated forest walkway, walking trails, and educational displays as you learn more about this unique ecosystem. Leave the visitor center behind and head to La Coca Falls, an 85-foot (26-meter) cascade that plunges down a series of rock formations into a shallow pool.

Then head to Yokahú Tower, a 69-foot (21-meter) tall tower offering unobstructed views of the surrounding countryside, plus a range of lush plant life like wild flowers, giant ferns, tropical hardwoods, and tree orchids growing nearby. After your stop at the tower, you’ll receive a transfer back to your San Juan hotel.

I went on this tour with my husband, it was very informative, not too strenuous, the length of time it involved was perfect, the tour guide was very caring , he gave us time to take pictures. Overall it was worth the money and the time, we both loved it

Incredible, informative, beautiful excursion

From pickup to drop off and at all points in between, our guide was personable, accommodating, and very informative. His depth of knowledge on all topics Puerto Rico, particularly flora, fauna and history was spectacular and delivered with ease and in a light, conversational manner. I could not recommend this trip or our guide Frankie more highly. Very grateful for the experience.

Great guide. Very knowledgeable and approachable. The excursion, however, is not for those seeking a true “hiking” adventure. There is a mix of minivan touring, stops at scenic locations, and a final hike to the river for a swim. Ok for those is “average” shape.

Frankie was our tour guide and a fantastic one at that! His knowledge of the local plant life makes him one of the best botanists I have ever come across. He is also funny and interactuve with the group; he kept us engaged the entire tiime. A true gem of a person that Bespoke is lucky to have as an employee.

The rain forest was beautiful, and our guide was very knowledgeable and hilarious! He pointed out various plants and flowers, and explained how the hurricanes create new life in the forest.

The best part of the trip was our tour guide, Frankie—who was full of energy, information, and a genuine concern for our needs as a group. The forest was absolutely magical!

Frankie the tour guide was great and obviously loves his home. We learned so much about the biodiversity of the entire island. The tower climb view was beautiful, the waterfall climb was challenging but fun, and the river stop was something we wish we would have had more time for, but still a great experience.

We really wanted to visit the rainforest during our visit, and this tour checked that off our list! We were hoping for a little more hiking, but this tour was more just stopping to see a sight and then driving to the next spot; the description wasn't super clear about this. The tour also started extremely late, we had to wait for over an hour without any communication from the company, but after we got picked up, we had a great time. Our guide, James, was extremely knowledgable and we learned a lot of really cool things! Would definitely recommend this if you're interested in touring the rainforest.

Best El Yunque overview for those with time or mobility challenges
Kathrine_V
, Mar 2022
We are somewhat mobility-challenged travelers and this trip was perfect for us. A great overview of El Yunque with a very knowledgeable guide (James). We made stops at Bano Grande, the observation tower, a roadside waterfall (not the famous waterfall) and the visitor center. Two things keep this from being a five-star experience: We waited more than an hour past our scheduled 7:40 pick-up time with little communication. We got a call about 8 saying the driving would be there in 10 min. About 30 min. after that we were about ready to leave when James called to say he was almost there (and he arrived about 5 min. later). He did offer a refund if we no longer wanted to go. The second issue was that despite advertising that water would be available, there was no water except for an opportunity to purchase some towards the end of the trip. Fortunately we brought our own water. All in all, we had a wonderful time and would recommend this trip. The half-day format can fit into the busiest travel schedule and the pace is perfect for older or mobility-challenged travelers.

Rainforest box checked, but not worth the money.

I have honestly never left a mediocre review (three stars is generous) and I'm not even comfortable complaining, but after sitting on this for a few days this rainforest trip was in retrospect a low point for our PR vacation and a waste of a lot of money. I'm sure that Bespoke usually does a better job (I hope so, at least), but in our case it was just unpleasant. Our pick up was 90 minutes late. I wish the company had communicated better here or had made an effort to reach out to us proactively. I contacted them on my own initiative and was told that the van would be 10 minutes late because of traffic, but then it didn't show up. An hour later I was basically begging for updates via text and phone after hearing nothing, and finally someone got back to me. By that point, I had actually become convinced that we had been scammed out of $250 and I was considering hitting that "request a refund" button on the Viator app. Our pick up finally arrived in a medium sized and comfortable van. The traffic story turned into some story about a surprise highway inspection making them late. Whatever--we were just happy to be on our way. Shortly thereafter, though, we pulled over to the side of the highway and we were all ushered into a smaller and uncomfortable van. To get to the very back row, you had to scoot down an "aisle" that was probably six inches wide at most. There was a seatbelt rope hanging from the ceiling that multiple guests caught their necks on. It was a challenge for the elderly and the larger guests to navigate the van. The air conditioning also didn't work well, which made it stuffy and as you can imagine the van took on a stench once every got sweaty. The mask policy also wasn't enforced in the van, which made me a little uncomfortable given how much one of the guests was coughing. The visit to the park itself was fine. We had five stops, all of which were nice and which really became the saving grace of this tour. No hikes, walks, or swimming--which was all fine since that got it the tour over with faster. Our guide was a nice guy. However, we were interested in learning more about some of the things that he said, and when we researched things later it turned out that some of the things that he told us were not really accurate. We tipped well at the end because we're not awful people and our guide was a nice guy, but we also were thrilled to be done with this tour. In the end, the tour got us to the rainforest and back--box checked. However, I would not do it again. We feel a little used and this experience was not worth the money. If you do this tour, I hope that your experience is better than ours.

Totally delightful day with 'Frankie'. He loves his "backyard", the El Junque rainforest! His knowledge of the plants and ecology of the land was so interesting. Loved the hikes, the information center (newly opened) and the fabulous scenery. Worth every penny!

Francisco was AMAZING! I joined this tour at the very last minute and not only was he able to accommodate us, but we were his first pick up for the excursion. Francisco was very knowledgeable about the island of Puerto Rico and the rainforest. He was also kind enough to provide cold water for every guest.

Our guide was just lovely! He gave us lots of information regarding the flora and fauna of the area. He was also very solicitous of my needs while I was trying to get over some difficult areas. He really made the tour quite fascinating and would definitely recommend him again!
