Where was the Rain Forest ?
Mike_H
, May 2022
There was no hike in the Rainforest !! First.. the positives. I received a call from the operator regarding pickup at our hotel. We were picked at at or near the suggested time. The operator.. and bus driver was knowledgeable, and gave quality information about Puerto Rico history.. Hurricane Maria etc. The biggest positives for my wife and I were a lunch stop at the Edelweiss Grill.. the food and Long Island Ice Teas were delicious and reasonable.. the service was very good. The best moments however were the camaraderie of our group on the bus. We really enjoyed the group of people we travelled with !! We didn't know anyone beforehand, but everyone enjoyed travelling together. Back to the "Hike." The bus parked on the side of a mountain road.. It was Sunday.. and our guide explained many locals would be in the area also.. using the waterslide.. they were.. and they were fun to watch. After parking.. we essentially descended down a semi-treacherous path.. (no one fell thankfully). Somewhere I saw mention that the "hike" would be 2 miles. We didn't even walk a half mile. We descended about 200 feet down to where the waterslide was.. The climb up the rock wall on the far side of the slide was tricky.. I wouldn't advise if for most people. In fact.. only my wife and I.. and one other person from our group climbed up.. and went down the slide. The natural slide.. smooth rock wall.. was about 50 feet long.. We were told to hold our arms out in front of us for balance.. but we were tossed into the pool at the bottom backwards and legs up in the air. There was a big rock about 10 feet from where you land in the small pool at the bottom of the slide. I'm sure a percentage of people bang their limbs on rocks while traversing the slide.. possibly even banging their head. That is only a guess on my part.. but I could easily envision it. After maybe 30 minutes at the first slide.. we descended down a rock face to a much smaller "slide".. but a bigger pool of water. Again.. dangerous.. and I wouldn't advise it for most people. I descended.. but frankly didn't see the point.. as I only floated around in the water for 10 minutes. I later saw a couple kids jumping off a rock into the water.. but it was only about 5 feet above the water.. and where they landed was only about 4' of water. We didn't see any waterfall.. at least higher than 1 foot.. there was no rainforest (I was envisioning a canopy of green above us.. and possibly rain (?!!) at some point. After maybe an hour.. we trekked back up to the bus.. and left for Loquillo Beach. There were souvenir shops.. and places to get local food.. mojitos etc.. which was ok.. but extremely busy.. cars were constantly rolling through. We only had time to peek at the beach.. we used the two hours to check out some shops and have lunch. Skip this one folks.. Enjoy yourselves in PR !!!

Everything was phenomenal from start to finish. First of all I love that they pick you up from wherever you're staying. The rainforest experience was everything I'd hoped. The second part of the trip to Luqillo Beach was enjoyable too. Tour guides were top notch. I accidentally left a bag on the bus and they came to my hotel the next day to drop it off to me. Highly recommend.

Tour guides were great and the trip was informative and fun. I liked that we got to experience basically 3 different things with this tour with the rainforest, shooing/dining, and another beach.

If you don’t want to slide down a waterfall and risk getting injured you get to enjoy viewing a small part of the rainforest. The guide wasn’t clear as to whether we could leave the area and come back so we just waited around while he enjoyed the waterfalls with the few people that went on it with him. It was a fairly crowded area..The beach was a good time after, however we could’ve driven there..especially because a group had one too many margaritas and were yelling at the top of their lungs the whole way back (1 hr drive)..the group lead/driver didn’t say anything. For the price, I’ve gone to much better activities.

River, water slide , and beach tour.
Geanna_M
, Feb 2022
I was expecting more of a Yunque Forest Tour experience. I wanted to see more of the forest growth and birds, etc. I would label this experience as a River, Water Slide , and beach experience more than a Yunque Forest tour. The River was beautiful and I loved the beach we were brought to but I would have chosen a tour with more Forest if I had known.

A good friend and I decided to do an impromptu trip to PR, and this was our compromise on hiking El Yunque and spending the day at the beach. Our guide Devon was amazing, and I wold recommend this trip to just about anyone with from teens to retirees.

Ruben was great, especially as he paid attention to each person's needs. He helped me navigate the climbing and was wonderful to my granddaughter as she navigated the falls with him.

The tour was excellent. Devin was the tour guide and was very pleasant. The price compared to similar tours was the most affordable..and gave you more bang for your buck (El Yunken & Luquillo Beach…not just El Yunken like the other tours). My son and I had a great time!

Not a “hike” at all and not recommended
robert_s
, Dec 2021
We did this excursion with our 16yo and 9yo. The guides were nice, but the “excursion” consisted of a short descent from the road, through someone’s back yard to a river with a cool rock water slide (packed with people) where we spent 20 minutes taking turns going down the slide. We then “hiked” 200 feet to a much smaller rock water slide that emptied into a small pond where you could jump off a rock into the pond. After 20 minutes at this spot we “hiked” back up the hill to the road and took the bus to Luquillo beach where they let us roam for 2 hours before taking us back to hotel. A real disappointment - not at all what was advertised or explained on the phone when we booked. This is not a hike in the rain forest. The rock water slides are fun but not worth the cost or travel time. Luquillo beach is nothing special (food kiosks, shops and a beach) - you can easily go there on your own.

Disappointed

, Dec 2021
The so-called hiking tour stopped at a water slide for 80 minutes with 5 minute walk. Didn’t even enter the park to see the real rainforest. Wouldn’t have gone if I knew this. The beach was okay. Stopped for 2 hours including “lunch time”.

Waterslides were great. Mini Waterfall was also good. I wish we hiked into the forest and learned more about rainforest flora and fauna in person.

Overall the tour was very...
Jeffrey_M
, Dec 2021
Overall the tour was very enjoyable - the guide was really knowledgeable and gave a bit of history and context about Puerto Rico during the drive. The rain forest is one stop with a very short but steep hike down to the natural waterfall that they are great about guiding to do safely and you can do as many times as you want. Then you go over to a swimming area and can jump off a rock into water. It is not easy terrain and some tricky wet rocks to navigate. Second part of trip is going to a public beach where there are many kiosks/restaurants lined up to eat. Each part of tour was 2 hours. The beach was fine but we were staying in Condado area and frankly the beaches there were nicer. The 2 complaints were the tour had ~30 people with about 8 different hotel stops - we were the second pickup and thus on the bus from our hotel for 75 min til rainforest. Second, we went around Christmas time 2021, when Omicron variant was rampant. On the initial ride to rainforest, all but one woman and the guide were wearing masks on the bus (guide never wore a mask), after the rainforest 1/3 bus stopped wearing masks, and after the beach, my family was the only ones wearing masks (on a mini bus with no open windows). Since the tour required masks, it was a bit unfortunate there was no attempt to enforce it on the bus.
