Crummy crumbs

Thought a lot about this review because I had read so many favorable reviews about this tour. How could our experience be so different than what I read? It simply wasn’t the same. The tour guide spoke so quickly she sounded like an auctioneer. Her voice would not carry beyond 4 feet and most of the people in the back while we were walking never heard her. And the food was, to put it nicely, insufficient both in quality and quantity. You would think for $148 you’d get more than relative crumbs. One example, the “main dish or entrée“ was a cup full of plantains that you mashed into a paste to make a Mufungo the size of the small cup, smaller than the palm of your hand, together with some beans. That was the main dish! It started with a 35 minute wait in the coffee shop for a cup of espresso and a greasy ham and cheese quarter sandwich. 35 minutes. Did they not know we were coming? On the way we had two desserts, a popsicle and a cup of gelato. The gelato was the best part of the whole tour. I went back and read reviews and a handful of the three stores mentioned it was a little pricey but worth it. I thought for $148 we would at least get a bottle of wine and a nice dinner. We got snacks and a tour guide that I couldn’t understand half the time. This is an honest review so we’ll see if Viator let’s it go past the censors. My wife and two daughters all agreed this was not a good use of our time or money.

Totally enjoyed this tour. Our tour guide Nie was very informative with a great personality. She was very engaging which also created a very engaging atmosphere among the entire group. The coordination and build up of the tasting was perfect. I highly recommend doing this soon as you visit Puerta Rico as to get a feel of things. The food portions were larger than I expected, which was a pleasant surprise. The places that we visited, the staff there were also so inviting. Just overall good time. May seem pricey, but felt worth it.

Flavors of San Juan

Flavors of San Juan was a phenomenal experience and an amazing way to experience Puerto Rican cuisine while learning more about the rich history and culture. Itzel, our tour guide, was knowledgeable, patient, energetic and made the tour extremely special for our family. We had to wait for a few minutes before beginning to allow other tour members to join us, but we understood because it was Friday and parking was challenging; however, we welcomed the cool breeze that blew favorably, and Itzel graciously offered to take group photos and she seized the opportunity to get to know a little more about us. Loved, loved, loved her!!! Once the tour started, the food was awesome from breakfast to dessert and everything in between. A little pricy, but the experience outweighed the cost.

Itz was fabulous, informative, fun, engaging, and entertaining If I could, I'd give her 6 stars. She provided so much insight into Puerto Rico as well as making the whole experience so much fun. My husband is gluten-free, not by choice, and she made sure he got the whole experience without having to feel he had to sacrifice anything. We'd definitely recommend this tour to friends.

More Than Just Food....

My initial thought for this tour (for two of us) was a bit pricey. However, our guide Ricardo changed my opinion. His ability to share his knowledge of Puerto Rican history, socio-economics, and yes, the food, made this well worth the cost. We did the tour on our first night which was an excellent way to get acquainted with food we never tried before so we could look for what we liked during the rest of our trip. I'd strongly recommend this tour for anyone looking to get exposure to Puerto Rican cuisine and deepen their knowledge about one of America's constituent cultures.

Hello! Thank you for your review and your praise of Ricardo. Our most tenured guide is such a treat to hang out with, and that's before the food. Thank you again.
